National Women’s Health and Fitness Day

In celebration of National Women’s Health and Fitness Day, let’s talk about what it means to be “healthy.” When we think healthy, we often think of exercising, eating right, or losing weight. While moving our bodies with intentional exercise, fueling ourselves with nutritious foods, and maintaining an ideal weight are healthy habits, there’s more to the picture.

For many, finding time to exercise or do the things we are told to do ends up being just another chore. Lots of women already take on the task of caring for their families, their home, their career, and much more. Putting yourself before others seems nearly an impossible task, maybe even selfish or wrong. However, taking care of others without caring for your own health isn’t possible long-term. Consider taking a “me first” approach to women’s health and well-being. Invest time in yourself now, and watch it pay off in the end!

Tips for Maintaining Your Health

Drink Water
Getting enough water daily improves hydration, circulation, digestion, joint mobility, and energy levels. Health recommendations are to drink about 90 ounces of water a day.

Get Quality Sleep
Sleep is needed for every system of the body. Poor sleep can affect your mood, brain function, immune system, digestive system, and more. Aim for seven to nine hours of uninterrupted sleep every night.

Minimize Stress
We all know that some stress is inevitable, but learning to manage it is a step towards a healthier daily life. Take a breath, practice some breathing techniques, and even consider a daily activity like meditation.

Get Regular Health Checkups
Making time to get your health checked regularly is an important step to maintain your health. Depending on age, some check ups that you should have regularly include Gynecologic visits, mammograms, blood pressure screenings, and eye exams.

Limit Alcohol
While it may seem like having a glass or two of wine every evening to unwind isn’t such a bad idea, the recommendation for women is to limit alcohol to one drink or less per day.
