Below is the outline of the Summer Internship Program. The summer program will allow you the opportunity to observe multiple hospital departments as well as observe them working together for the best possible outcome of the patients and the community.

Please read it carefully in order to determine whether or not you are a candidate.

• The program will include only those students entering their junior or senior years of high school that are interested in a career in healthcare. All applicants must be 16 or older AND entering their 11th or 12th grade year in Fall of 2024.
• The Program Orientation will be held on Tuesday, June 11, 2024 at OakBend Medical Center – Jackson Street Hospital Campus Conference Room from 8:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. This is MANDATORY for all internship applicants.
• The program will begin on June 11, 2024 and will end on July 26, 2024 excluding the week of July 1 through July 5, 2024. For this six week period, the students will be expected to be in attendance from 8:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m., every Tuesday and Thursday morning. There will be no opportunity to make up missed days. Please do not apply if you have activities planned for these days. Missing the program for this reason is not acceptable and you will not be granted the certificate of completion.
• Each new applicant will need to submit the application AND the provided recommendation forms from two current teachers to the education department at educationdept@obmc.org by May 7th, 2024.
• Incomplete applications and applications completed by parent will not be considered. If we do not receive the two provided recommendation forms and application by the deadline, May 7, you will not be eligible for the interview. Interviews will be conducted on Friday, May 24, 2024, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. only. There will NOT be any other interview times scheduled. No exceptions.
• Each individual who is accepted into the program will be responsible for bringing proof of TB test by June 4, 2024. The test should be administered and approved by your personal physician or clinic after March 12, 2024. If the prospective applicant fails to submit their TB test by June 4, 2024, they will not be eligible to enter the program.
•Each individual who is accepted into the program will be responsible for sending a copy of current vaccinations by June 4, 2024. If the prospective applicant fails to submit the vaccination record by June 4, 2024, they will not be eligible to enter the program.
• Required dress code is a red polo shirt with khaki pants and closed-toed shoes. Khaki pants and closed-toes shoes must be worn on the orientation day (June 22, 2024). Individuals are required to purchase OakBend Medical Center red polo shirt for $34.00 on the orientation day.
• Acceptance letters will be emailed on Tuesday, May 31, 2024.
