Below is the outline of the Summer Internship Program. The summer program will allow you the opportunity to observe multiple hospital departments as well as observe them working together for the best possible outcome of the patients and the community. Please read it carefully in order to determine whether or not you are a candidate. Eligibility Requirements

  • For High School Students Only: The program is open to students who will be entering their junior (11th grade) or senior (12th grade) year in Fall 2024.
  • Age Requirement: Applicants must be 16 years old or older by the start of the program.

Application Process

  • Application Deadline: Submit your completed application and two recommendation forms from current teachers to educationdept@obmc.org by May 7, 2024. Incomplete applications or those completed by parents will not be considered.
  • Interview Dates: Interviews will take place on Friday, May 24, 2024, between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Only these times are available; no exceptions will be made.

Program Dates and Attendance

  • Program Duration: The internship runs from June 11, 2024, to July 26, 2024, with a break during the week of July 1 through July 5, 2024.
  • Schedule: Students are required to attend sessions every Tuesday and Thursday morning from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. during the six-week period. Attendance is mandatory, and missed days cannot be made up. Please do not apply if you have conflicts with these dates.

Orientation

  • Date and Time: Orientation will be held on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the OakBend Medical Center – Jackson Street Hospital Campus Conference Room. Attendance at orientation is mandatory.

Health and Safety Requirements

  • TB Test: Accepted participants must provide proof of a TB test, administered and approved by a physician or clinic after March 12, 2024, by June 4, 2024. Failure to provide this documentation will result in ineligibility for the program.
  • Vaccinations: A copy of current vaccinations must be submitted by June 4, 2024. Failure to provide this documentation will result in ineligibility for the program.

Dress Code

  • Required Attire: Participants must wear a red OakBend Medical Center polo shirt, khaki pants, and closed-toed shoes. On orientation day (June 11, 2024), participants must wear khaki pants and closed-toed shoes. The red polo shirt must be purchased for $34.00 during orientation.

Acceptance Notification

  • Notification Date: Acceptance letters will be emailed on Tuesday, May 31, 2024.
