Below is the outline of the Summer Internship Program. The summer program will provide you with the opportunity to observe multiple hospital departments and see how they work together to achieve the best possible outcomes for patients and the community.

Eligibility Requirements

  • For High School Students Only: The program is open to students who will be entering their junior (11th grade) or senior (12th grade) year of high school.
  • Age Requirement: Applicants must be 16 years old or older by the start of the program.

Application Process

  • Application Deadline: Submit your completed application and two recommendation forms from current teachers to dthakkar@obmc.org by May 5, 2025. Incomplete applications or those completed by parents will not be considered. If we do not receive the two recommendation forms, vaccine records, and application by the deadline of May 5, 2025, you will not be eligible for an interview.
  • Interview Dates: Interviews will be conducted via Zoom on Thursday, May 22, and Friday, May 23, 2025, between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. only. No other interview times will be scheduled, and no exceptions will be made. (The scheduled date and time may be subject to change.)

Program Dates and Attendance

  • Program Duration: The internship runs from June 10, 2025, to July 25, 2025, with a break from July 1 through July 5, 2025.
  • Schedule: Students are required to attend sessions every Tuesday and Thursday morning from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. during the six-week period. Attendance is mandatory, and missed days cannot be made up. Please do not apply if you have conflicts with these dates. Missing the program for this reason is not acceptable, and you will not be granted a certificate of completion.

Orientation

  • Date and Time: The program orientation will be held on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at OakBend Medical Center – Jackson Street Hospital Campus Conference Room from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Attendance at orientation is mandatory.

Health and Safety Requirements

  • TB Test: Each individual accepted into the program must email proof of a TB test by June 1, 2025. The test must be administered and approved by your physician or clinic for 2025. If a prospective applicant fails to submit their TB test by June 1, 2025, they will not be eligible to participate in the program.
  • Vaccinations: A copy of current vaccinations must be submitted by May 5, 2025. Failure to provide this documentation will result in ineligibility for the program.

Dress Code

  • Required Attire: Participants must wear a red OakBend Medical Center polo shirt, khaki pants, and closed-toe shoes. On orientation day, participants must wear khaki pants and closed-toe shoes. The red polo shirt must be purchased for $34.00 during orientation.

Phone Policy

  • Phone Policy: No photography or phone use is allowed during rotations.

Acceptance Notification

  • Notification Date:Acceptance letters will be emailed on May 27, 2025.
