What Is GivingTuesday?

GivingTuesday is a global movement that celebrates the power of generosity to transform communities and lives. This year’s GivingTuesday takes place on December 2, 2025, and we invite you to be part of this special day of giving. What began in 2012 as a simple idea, a day that encourages people to do good, has grown into a worldwide celebration of kindness and compassion.

At OakBend Medical Center, GivingTuesday is a chance to see generosity in action. Below, you can learn why this day matters to our mission, explore ongoing programs that make a difference, discover volunteer opportunities, and find ways to give back to your community.

Restricted vs. Unrestricted Giving

When you make a donation to a nonprofit organization, you can choose to direct your gift toward a specific purpose. This is known as designating or restricting your donation. However, if you make a general, unrestricted donation, the nonprofit can allocate the funds where they are needed most.

Your Gift Supports Our Mission

At OakBend Medical Center, your generosity directly supports our mission to provide exceptional, compassionate care for our community, regardless of ability to pay. Each gift, whether designated or unrestricted, helps us strengthen our programs, improve access to care, and ensure the future of high-quality health services for our community.

How Your Gift Makes a Difference

Through the generosity of individual donors, corporations, and foundations, we have been able to acquire advanced diagnostic and surgical equipment, including new Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and Computed Tomography (CT) machines, as well as Surgical Endoscopes and Nuclear Medicine Cameras. These advancements allow us to continue serving Fort Bend County and the surrounding communities with the best possible care.

Your contribution, no matter the size, makes a meaningful difference in the lives of those we serve.

Here are a couple examples of how your gift can make an impact:

  • $20 can help support essential imaging services, such as an X-ray
  • $100 can help fund advanced diagnostic services, such as an MRI

Ongoing Programs That Your Gift Supports

Your support also helps sustain our ongoing programs:

Indigent Care Program
This program allows us to provide essential medical care to individuals who do not have the financial means to pay for it, improving overall health in our community. In 2021 alone, OakBend spent $18 million to deliver $83.6 million in services to uninsured and underinsured patients.

Gifts of Gratitude Program
Our Gifts of Gratitude program offers patients and families the opportunity to give back after an exceptional experience with their care team. These gifts directly support OakBend’s goal of becoming the best health care organization in our community, while ensuring that future patients continue to receive compassionate, high quality care.

A Community Hospital You Can Trust

As the last remaining independent nonprofit hospital in the Greater Houston area, OakBend Medical Center depends on the generosity of our community to continue providing exceptional care for all. We proudly offer a wide range of services to meet the diverse health needs of our patients, including our No-Wait Emergency Room, the only one of its kind in the Greater Houston area.

Studies show that the longer patients wait to receive care, the worse their outcomes can be. That is why OakBend’s three Emergency Care Centers are staffed with physicians and nurses who hold advanced training and national credentials in trauma, cardiovascular, and pediatric care. Our air ambulance and trauma transfer agreements ensure that patients with critical injuries receive the highest level of care as quickly as possible.

This commitment to immediate, evidence-based, patient-centered care reflects OakBend’s belief that health care is not simply a service, but a calling to care for people in their most vulnerable moments.

This GivingTuesday, you have the power to support this mission and ensure that everyone in Fort Bend County continues to have access to life saving care close to home.
