Shayla Sharmin is a Board-Certified Family Nurse Practitioner who earned her associate degree in nursing from Tyler Junior College, her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Texas Tech University, and her master’s degree in nursing from Ball State University. She received her board certification in family practice in 2019 and brings a strong foundation of clinical knowledge and compassionate care to every patient interaction.
Since joining OakBend Medical Group in 2021, Shayla has provided acute, chronic, and preventative care for patients ages 5 and up. She treats a wide range of conditions, including viral illnesses, respiratory problems, skin issues, minor injuries, gastrointestinal concerns, and both male and female acute health needs. She also manages chronic conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, respiratory and endocrine disorders, neurological conditions, mental health concerns, arthritis, and kidney or bladder issues. In addition, she offers preventative care services such as annual physicals, wellness screenings, vaccinations, and school or sports physicals. Shayla collaborates closely with general surgeons, physical therapists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure patients receive comprehensive, coordinated care tailored to their needs.
Originally from Bangladesh, she offers a rich cultural perspective and is fluent in English, Bangla, Hindi, Urdu, and conversational medical Spanish, which allows her to connect with patients from diverse backgrounds. She currently lives in Katy with her husband and their two sons, and enjoys reading thrillers, traveling, and spending quality time with family and friends in her free time.
