Dr. Joe Anzaldúa received his undergraduate education from St. Edwards University in Austin, Texas. He graduated “Magna Cum Laude” in 1977 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology. He attended the University of Texas Medical School in San Antonio, Texas and received his medical degree in 1982. Dr. Anzaldúa then completed his residency training in Family and Community Medicine in 1985 at the Memorial Hospital Family Practice Residency program in Houston, Texas.
Dr. Anzaldúa is board certified by the American Board of Family Practice. He is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians. The Degree of Fellow recognizes AAFP members who have distinguished themselves among their colleagues, as well as in their communities, by their service to family medicine, by their advancement of health care to the American people, and by their professional development through medical education and research. As Founder and Medical Director of Sugar Land Family Physicians, Dr. Anzaldúa has been in private medical practice in the Sugar Land area since 1985. He has held a clinical faculty appointment as Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine of The University of Texas Medical School at Houston since 1994. He also serves as faculty in the Department of Family Practice, Baylor College of Medicine. Dr. Anzaldúa is the current Medical Director of Emergency Medical Services for the City of Sugar Land, the City of Stafford, and the City of Missouri City, Texas. He has also served as a member of the Emergency/Trauma Care Policy Council for the Houston/Galveston area.
In January 2006, Dr. Anzaldúa was appointment to the Governor’s EMS and Trauma Advisory Council (GETAC) Stroke Committee. On June 6, 2006, Dr. Anzaldúa was appointed by city council as the first Health Authority for the City of Sugar Land and continues to serve in that capacity. In 2009, he was also appointed to serve as Health Authority for the City of Stafford. Dr. Anzaldúa also serves on the Board of Directors for the Texas Academy of Family Practice. He is also Medical Director of Emergency Medical Services Education and Consulting, Inc.
Dr. Anzaldúa is married with three children and has been a resident of Sugar Land for the past 30 years. He is a member of the St. Laurence Catholic Parish in Sugar Land. For the past 12 years, Dr. Anzaldúa has been a member of the Houston Symphony Chorus.
