OakBend Medical Center is proud to partner with Sam Houston State University College of Osteopathic Medicine (SHSU COM) to bring the OakBend Family Medicine Residency Program to Richmond, Texas. This program represents a shared commitment to expand access to primary care while training physicians who will care for families in our community.

The program welcomed its first class of residents in August 2024 and will continue to grow over the next three years. Following a 4 4 4 structure, the program will include 12 residents once fully developed. Training takes place at OakBend Medical Center and nearby community clinics, giving residents the opportunity to work in both hospital and outpatient settings.

Residency programs are important for long term community health. Many physicians choose to remain in the area where they train, which helps increase access to care for local families. By offering this program in Richmond, OakBend is investing in the future of healthcare for Fort Bend County and surrounding areas.

The residency is led by Program Director Dr. Tracy Stammann, D.O., who is dedicated to preparing physicians to be compassionate, skilled, and community-focused leaders in family medicine. Through training at OakBend Medical Center and affiliated clinics in the Richmond area, residents gain comprehensive experience in both inpatient and outpatient settings. This consistent, community-centered environment is designed to grow well-rounded physicians who are deeply committed to the people and neighborhoods they serve.

Dr. Tracy Stammann earned her Doctorate in Osteopathic Medicine from Lincoln Memorial University in Tennessee and completed her family medicine residency in Harlingen, Texas. A Fort Bend County native, she attended Foster High School, Wharton County Junior College, and the University of Houston Sugar Land campus.

Fiza Khan, DO

Dr. Khan earned her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine – Louisiana after completing her bachelor’s degree with a minor in chemistry at Louisiana State University Shreveport. Before joining OakBend Medical Center, Dr. Khan worked as a medical scribe in the emergency department, gaining valuable experience supporting physicians and caring for patients in a fast-paced clinical environment. She is passionate about preventive medicine and community outreach and has contributed to preventive medicine research, clinical case presentations, and volunteer initiatives serving underserved populations. Outside of medicine, she enjoys designing and decorating for a variety of events and celebrations, cooking traditional Pakistani dishes, and reading nonfiction books focused on history, medicine, and personal growth.

Reema Khatri, MD

Dr. Khatri earned her Doctor of Medicine degree from the Medical University of Lublin in Poland after receiving a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Benedictine University. Before joining OakBend Medical Center, she worked as a medical assistant, completed clinical observerships in primary care and at Houston Methodist, conducted tuberculosis research at Texas A&M College of Medicine, and contributed to published research in the Bulletin of Mathematical Biology on epidemic modeling and multi-stage vaccines. Dr. Khatri is a compassionate physician who values building strong relationships with her patients through clear communication and personalized care. She is fluent in English, Gujarati, and Hindi, helping her communicate with and care for a diverse patient population.

Obinna Obuekwe, MD

Dr. Obuekwe earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from Ross University School of Medicine after receiving a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology from East Tennessee State University. Before joining OakBend Medical Center, he completed a research fellowship in andrology and men’s health at Houston Methodist Hospital, where he conducted research focused on male reproductive health and fertility. He has received a research fellowship grant, authored numerous peer-reviewed publications, and presented his research at national medical conferences. Dr. Obuekwe is passionate about advancing medicine through research while providing compassionate, patient-centered care. Outside of medicine, he is dedicated to serving others through community outreach, volunteer work, and mentoring future healthcare professionals.

Mustafa Abdi, MD

Dr. Abdi earned his medical degree from Ain Shams University Faculty of Medicine in Egypt and has cared for patients in a variety of healthcare settings across the United States and internationally. Before joining OakBend Medical Center, Dr. Abdi gained experience in primary care, internal medicine, behavioral health, community health, and oncology research, caring for patients with both acute and chronic conditions. Working in primary care reinforced his belief that empathy and clear communication are essential to helping patients better understand and manage their health. Fluent in English, Arabic, and Somali, Dr. Abdi enjoys connecting with patients from diverse backgrounds and helping bridge cultural and language barriers. Outside of medicine, he enjoys playing soccer and served as captain of his medical school’s soccer team, demonstrating leadership, teamwork, and dedication on and off the field.
